Speaker Bio
Dr. Thresa Lang serves as the Acting Chief Information Security Officer for the DHS Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). She is primarily responsible for protecting the Department’s information technology (IT) infrastructure from all threats.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Lang served as the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer for DHS, where she directly assisted the CISO in enhancing, updating, and improving the Department’s cybersecurity defenses. She also directed the operational side of the Department’s cybersecurity program, overseeing the security operations center and security engineering teams. She was responsible for the DHS Headquarters cybersecurity program as well as its communications security, configuration management, and public key infrastructure operations.
Dr. Lang served as the Director of the Navy Cybersecurity Division for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare. She managed analytic, technical, and assessment efforts driving continued cybersecurity improvement across the Navy. She also served as the Director, Washington Operations for the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, providing executive presence in the National Capital Region. She entered the Senior Executive Service in December 2016. Prior to her appointment, she served in various leadership positions for the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific.
Dr. Lang has leadership experience in the private sector including work at Dell, Inc. and as CEO of her own firm. Her roles at Dell included corporate security strategist and technical director for business assurance and strategic initiatives. Her consulting business provided special security instruction and services to intelligence community agencies and their supporting contractor organizations.
Dr. Lang has a Master of Science in management information systems and a Ph.D. in information systems and information assurance policy. She also has a 4th Degree in French from L’Institute de Touraine. Her certifications include Risk and Information Systems Control, Information Systems Manager, Information Systems Security Professional, Information Systems Auditor, and Systems Analyst.
