Vera Ashworth is the Deputy Assistant Commissioner in the Office of Information Technology Category (ITC), in GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service (FAS). FAS provides buying platforms and acquisition services to federal, state, and local governments for a broad range of items from office supplies and motor vehicles to information technology and telecommunications products and services. The ITC portfolio includes acquisition solutions through which 98% of federal customer agencies procure more than $26 billion in IT products and services, saving nearly $2 billion annually. These solutions include the Multiple Award Schedule, IT Category, Government-wide Acquisition Contracts (GWACs) Alliant 2, VETS2 and 8(a) STARS.

Vera has also been selected by the Program Management Office for Government-wide Category Management Intelligence, in consultation with the Office of Management and Budget, to serve as the Government-wide Information Technology (IT) Category Manager and oversee the Information Technology Vendor Management Office (ITVMO). The ITVMO provides government-wide market intelligence services to federal agencies to support​ support better IT buying practices for the federal government.

In her role as the ITC Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Vera is a senior advisor to the ITC Assistant Commissioner and serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the full ITC portfolio. She also oversees workforce planning and development, budget, strategic planning, audits, technology management, outreach, and employee engagement for ITC.

Vera joins GSA after many years in the IT industry in federal government and the private sector, most recently as a vice president at CGI. Highlights include leading strategy and operations for one of CGI’s largest business units, and driving change management and business process re-engineering to deliver modernized IT services and solutions for cabinet-level agencies. While at Booz Allen she led the concept and creation of a business intelligence dashboard and reporting solution joining enterprise budget and financial information for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). During her time at EPA, Vera was the Superfund branch chief in Budget and oversaw the formulation and execution of the agency’s hazardous waste and emergency response programs - nearly $2B of the agency’s budget. In her early career, she worked for small businesses providing IT solutions for military, local government and commercial clients.

Active for several years in industry and government groups focused on improving federal IT, Vera was named a recipient of the 2018 Federal 100 Awards, presented to government, industry, and academic leaders who have played pivotal roles affecting how the federal government acquires, develops, and manages IT.

Vera’s other industry leadership experience includes graduating from the 2016 ACT-IAC Partners professional development program and serving as the founding Industry Vice-Chair of the ACT-IAC IT Management and Modernization Community of Interest (COI). She also served as co-lead of the Professional Services Council (PSC) Department of Transportation (DOT) Vision team.

Vera received her Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from Old Dominion University.
